While we all have an inborn ability to feel empathy, it is also a skill that can be improved on. The OFNR process — Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests — is a method in nonviolent communication that is designed to do just that. In the workplace, OFNR can be used to help us connect more effectively with others and thus accelerate teamwork. Observing situations and understanding others’ feelings and needs is key to forming appropriate strategies for meeting the needs of everyone involved.
